Amersfoort voted European City of the Year 2023!
Amersfoort has been named European City of the Year by The Academy of Urbanism in London, November 2023. The jury praised Amersfoort for its quality of life, progressive urban planning and innovation while preserving its character and heritage.
The ‘European City of the Year’ is an international professional award that is awarded based on the layout of a city, the variety of housing types and the connections between neighbourhoods. But it is also important that residents feel at home in the city and are involved.
The Academy is formed by scientists, politicians and specialists from all over the world in the field of urban and regional development.
Amersfoort

There is so much to see and do in Amersfoort! Climb the 346 steps of the Lieve Vrouwetoren and take in the breathtaking view over the city. You can also visit Amersfoort Zoo, Kamp Amersfoort, the Cavalry Museum, or the National Military Museum in Soesterberg.

If you have a passion for visual culture or photography, then Het Rietveldpaviljoen is the place for you! This unique building was designed by Rietveld himself and serves as a welcoming space for everyone. It was the very first art hall in the Netherlands and remains an inspiring venue where art is created, exhibited, and experienced.

Bezienswaardigheden
In Amersfoort is er heel veel te doen en te zien! Beklim de 346 treden van de Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren en kijk uit over de stad. Ga het water op en boek een rondvaart door de grachten met de Waterlijn of ga met een stadsgids op pad en ontdek spannende en geheime plaatsen die de veel mensen nooit zullen zien. Ben je meer van beeldcultuur of fotografie dan is Het Rietveldpaviljoen iets voor jou! Het unieke gebouw is ontworpen door Rietveld zelf en is een plek voor iedereen. Het was de allereerste kunsthal van Nederland en is nu nog steeds een inspirerende plek waar kunst wordt gemaakt, geëxposeerd en beleefd.
